da brdice: As reported by The Daily Mail, Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has claimed it would be an embarrassment if Rangers did not finish second in the Scottish Premiership this season.
What’s the story?
da cassino online: The Ibrox side are currently in third place behind the Dons, trailing by a point with two games remaining, one of which is tonight against McInnes’ outfit at Pittodrie.
That’s probably why the Aberdeen manager has piled pressure on the Rangers squad with his comments, stating that he believes despite all the drama at Rangers in recent months that their squad should be good enough to finish behind Celtic.
As quoted by The Daily Mail, McInnes said:
It would be more than a bit of an embarrassment for Rangers if they don’t finish second, with what they have to play with.
A lot of these players have been there for a while and going on to their fourth manager in 18 months.
It’s not just down to the managers, they have a lot of good players there. I think, with what Rangers have and how they recruited in the January window, they should be second.
Interesting words indeed ahead of the encounter, but will comments like that simply end up motivating the Light Blues squad?
How will tonight’s match go?
In head to head battles this season Aberdeen have failed to impress against Rangers.
Comfortably beating the Dons 3-0 at home in November, the Light Blues followed that up with a 2-1 victory at Pittodrie just days later.
In the last encounter between the two sides, Rangers emerged as 2-0 winners at Ibrox.
The Rangers squad will know then that tonight is a massive opportunity to make McInnes eat his pre-match words, which is perhaps the motivation they need to get the job done at Pittodrie.
Supporters are desperate for their side to finish second which, despite another disappointing season, would be tangible progress from last term.
