Every footballer has to go through some sort of initiation when they join a new club, and more often than not they are asked to get up in front of their new teammates and belt out a song.John Terry has witnessed this embarrassing moment numerous times throughout his career as new members arrived at Chelsea. This time, though, he was given the (invisible) microphone after joining Aston Villa on a one-year contract following his departure from Stamford Bridge. His new teammate Andre Green captured the moment at the club’s pre-season training camp in Portugal, where Terry sang ‘Stand By Me’ by Ben E. King accompanied by a man playing an acoustic guitar.
After his official unveiling at Villa earlier this week, Terry admitted that he was not looking forward to the initiation, but judging by the video, he did not look too embarrassed.
The 36-year-old defender received a round of applause from his new teammates, but it is probably best for everyone that Terry sticks to his day job.
The former England captain opted to sign for the Championship club after ending his 22-year association at Chelsea last season.
