Southampton announced via their official Twitter account on Thursday that it was five years to the day that they had signed current club captain Steven Davis.
The Northern Ireland skipper moved to St Mary’s following the Saints’ return to the Premier League in 2012, and he has gone on to become one of their key players as the club has improved and qualified for Europe twice.
The 32-year-old hasn’t always been known for his goalscoring – he failed to find the net last season – but he has certainly come up with memorable moments such as putting the newly-promoted south coast outfit 2-1 up against the then champions Manchester City on the opening day of the 2012/13 campaign, while he scored a brace as they beat Tottenham 2-1 in May 2016.
Southampton supporters were quick to have their say on the 32-year-old as the anniversary was announced, with some fans going as far as describing him as one of the best signings the club has ever made.
