da bet7: Birmingham fans had their worst fears confirmed on Monday night as midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld was ruled out for the next six to nine months with an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee.
The player had to be stretchered off after 57 minutes of the club’s outstanding win over Leeds United last weekend. That victory, however, has now been overshadowed by this terrible news.
Fans took to Twitter to issue the player support and express how gutted they were that he was to now miss such a long period of time.
Some supporters wished him well for the future and others touched on a fantastic gesture by the club to trigger the one-year extension in his contract. His current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2020.
One individual called it a massive blow to the team whilst another said he’d been immense for Birmingham.
Kieftenbeld’s injury isn’t timely at all with the club fighting relegation following a points deduction for a breach of spending.
Despite beating Leeds the club sits just five points above the drop zone going into the midweek fixtures.
The Dutchman had played 38 times this season before picking up an injury.
Here’s what fans of the Blues have been saying.
