Watford are enjoying an unbelievable season, encapsulated by their FA Cup quarter-final victory over Crystal Palace and the consequential progression to Wembley, where they will face Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It’s difficult to pick out the star man; Abdoulaye Doucoure and Etienne Capoue have both been excellent, Jose Holebas has had a good season, as has Roberto Pereyra, while Javi Gracia deserves plaudits for the job he’s done with a club known for changing managers like socks.
Gerard Deulofeu, though, has come on leaps and bounds since the last campaign and is excelling up front alongside Troy Deeney in what is becoming the perfect thunder and lightning strike partnership. Hornets fans will surely be hoping the duo will lead the line for the next couple of seasons and it seems the Spaniard is willing to keep doing his part.
Speaking to Guillem Balague, the speedster said:
“Barcelona is in the past for me. Maybe the problem when I played for Everton was that my heart was in Barcelona, I wanted to come back. But that’s life and now I am here. I am an ambitious player, I want to play for the big teams and to help Watford so let’s see what happens.”
Indeed, when the 25-year-old was at Goodison Park he was pretty impressive, but hardly set the world alight when he returned to the Premier League via a temporary spell at Watford in January 2018. He chalked up one goal and one assist in seven appearances, but the bigwigs at Vicarage Road were clearly convinced of his ability and decided to shell out £11.5m in order to make the winger’s stay in Hertfordshire permanent.

The eight-figure sum may be why we are seeing the rejuvenated winger back to his best – he knew there was a possibility of returning to the Nou Camp while he was at Everton so was playing for himself rather than the badge.
But now, at Watford, he is fully focused on doing his best for Gracia and his teammates.
