Newcastle United’s season has been full of ups and downs so far and the Magpies are currently sitting in 12th with the winter break now in full effect in the Premier League.
Defensive issues have been a problem – seeing how they have conceded 36 goals in a total of 25 games played so far – but the situation is slightly more complicated than that.
Recently it was revealed that their goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka, has the second-best save percentage from goalkeepers outside of the top six with 73.9%, and is only behind Sheffield United’s Dean Henderson who sits on 75.6%.
But it has to be noted that Dubravka has already made a total of 102 saves compared to Henderson’s 62.
Many Newcastle fans seem to think this trend cannot be sustained for much longer going forward.
But of course, while this is the downside of the stopper’s incredible achievement, it’s still difficult to look past it and many of the fans were simply in awe of their goalie, calling him top class in the process.
One fan page even called him ‘invaluable’ and his stat ‘unheard of’ while one other supporter dubbed him one of the best goalies in the league.
And honestly, it’s difficult to argue against it…
But with Dubravka’s success becoming documented in the British media and the player getting the spotlight he deserves, there’s also a fear among some fans that a big team might swoop in and take him away.
After all, you can’t be that good and stay under the radar for too long.
In other news, many Newcastle fans were in awe of one of their star’s brilliant gesture on Twitter…
