West Ham United transfer target Michael Keane has been hailed by pundit Tam McManus.
The Lowdown: West Ham target defender
Journalist Dean Jones recently informed GIVEMESPORT that Keane is being ‘considered’ by the Hammers for a January transfer switch, in light of Everton recently deciding to let their centre-back leave on loan in the upcoming window.
West Ham currently have Kurt Zouma out with a knee injury, which required surgery, while Nayef Aguerd is on the treatment table with a thigh problem, so David Moyes may move for a defender on a short-term deal to provide cover for the missing duo.
The Latest: McManus excited by Keane links
Speaking to Football Insider, McManus waxed lyrical about the impact the Englishman could have at the London Stadium, saying:
“That Everton defence has not been their problem this season but I’m still surprised Keane hasn’t been getting more game time.
“He’s a good defender and he would do a job at West Ham. We know they need to boost their defence a little bit because they have had injuries.
“Keane has been a solid Premier League player for years and I think he would be one of the signings of the winter, to be honest.”
The Verdict: Great signing
The 29-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Goodison, featuring just three times in all competitions this season, however that does not mean he would not be a worthwhile option for West Ham.
Journalist Adrian Durham has labelled the 6 foot 3 titan ‘superb’, and while Frank Lampard seemingly does not rate him, it is well documented that Moyes is a big admirer, as reported by the Daily Star amid rumours of a transfer switch back in the summer.
Working with a manager who trusts him could reignite Keane’s form, and get him back to the level of the 2018-19 season, in which he was one of Everton’s most consistent performers, averaging above a 7.0 SofaScore rating across the course of the campaign.
