da betsson: According to reports from The Daily Mail, Bournemouth are prepared to offer transfer-bound Chelsea defender John Terry a two-year contract.
What’s the word?
da doce: John Terry will leave the club he’s served for so long when his contract expires at the end of the season and surprisingly admitted after Chelsea’s 4-3 win over Watford on Monday night that he may decide to hang up his boots rather than spend the final few years of his career at another club.
The Daily Mail, however, believe the veteran defender will look to continue playing next season with another Premier League club, and thus have reignited old claims that Bournemouth are interested in signing the 36-year-old. Their two selling points are the fact Terry won’t have to relocate his family to play on the south coast and that they’re prepared to offer him a two-year contract, something most other clubs will be reluctant to do consider due to his age.
The right fit?
Bournemouth seems like a nice enough destination for any player to see out their career, covered in south coast sunshine and playing in a team that employ attacking football. Likewise, the Cherries could certainly do with some assistance at the back; they’ve got the third-worst goals conceded record in the Premier League this season and have let in more goals than rock-bottom Sunderland.
Yet, it still doesn’t feel like quite the right fit, mainly because Bournemouth play an expansive game, often with a high line. Of course, Terry won’t be expected to perform to the same standards he’s shown at Chelsea down the years but he still needs protection to produce his best form, which is why he’s become a bit of the burden for the Blues – his strengths and weaknesses dictate how they have to play.
Terry needs a team who sit deep and don’t leave him exposed in front or from wide positions.. They may not be a particularly glamorous team, but West Brom would be perfect.
